COFFEE MORNING: at Holy Trinity Church on Saturday 16 July from 10am to 12 noon with the Hurstpierpoint Festival Highlights 2016! Go along for a sneak preview and find out about the highlights of our forthcoming village festival in September. Listen to a talk by one of the festival committee and hear what many delights will be on offer this year. Coffee/cakes/variety of craft and home produce stalls available throughout the morning. Free admission to one and all.

HURST CINEMA: has a live NT screening of Kenneth Branagh’s new modern version of Romeo & Juliet, on Thursday 7 July at 7pm. Starring Richard Madden and Lily James as the star crossed lovers and Sir Derek Jacobi as Mercutio. Tickets available from their website or Mishon Mackay.

BARN DANCE: on Saturday 9 July at the Village Centre, a family and social event even for those who do not normally dance, as the steps are usually called out. Tickets for this fun evening are from Mishon Mackay or Feathers. All the proceeds will go towards the Bowling Club’s new extension fund, with an expanding membership and plans to build an under cover winter play area, they are working to raise the shortfall in funding of £35,000. Any one wishing to contribute without dancing can also buy a brick for £10 and be entered into the brick raffle, which has several generous prizes.

DANNY HOUSE: New Way Lane, will be having a concert on Saturday 9 July at 4pm. Coro Novo Choir will be marking 450 years since the death of Shakespeare. For information phone 01273 833000.

HURST COMMUNITY SHOP: Attending the AGM of our village shop now in its 21st year, it was interesting to note how much money is raised from your donations with work from a team of volunteers, and how it is put back into our community. It was one of the first sponsors of the Arts Festival allowing it to get off the ground, a player in the trader’s Christmas festival providing for the visit of the reindeer, and helping to fund the Think Hurst shopping bags, now available to buy. Groups have been helped like the Scouts, the Guides, WI, the Museum and the setting up of Treetops Children’s Club at the school. Each year part of the costs for the North Hurst Tenants outing is provided, a trip was put on for those who are housebound to go to tea at Danny and the Woodland Flora and Fauna Group were helped with owl box replacements in the parish. One big project is assisting the school over 3 years with the upgrade of its swimming pool, by relining, roofing and heating to enable it to be used all year and eventually open at times for village resident use. Plus some of the income has been used for the re-ordering of Holy Trinity Church, and at the same time providing us with an Aiaddin’s cave of a variety of the unusual to the every day, happily donated to clear out stuff from home. All this has been orchestrated by Rosslyn Stenning, as its Manger and main driving force, who has now stepped down to busy herself with her garden, and many thanks are due to her for the 21 years she has devoted to its success and making it a feature of the village. Wendy Box and the volunteers will be continuing the good work.

DATE FOR THE DIARY: Following on from last year’s magical outdoor production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ the same directorial team will be bringing to Hurst another of Shakespeare’s plays. This year Gin Palace Productions is proud to present the captivating Twelfth Night, set in 1949, with a small cast of exceptionally talented local actors. Join in on a light-hearted journey to Illyria, a land where illusion and fantasy collide and appearances are not quite what they seem, whilst the cast tell the timeless story of merriment, misplaced ambition and unrequited love.
