Lindfield Arts Festival: The programme for the Festival on the 17th September is very full and some of the talks and workshops are being run by Lindfield residents. There will be evidence that the art of violin restoration is alive and well with Peter Voigt who is living proof that many a good tune is played on an old fiddle. Cavan Wood will enlighten audiences with his views on why we read Jane Austen in the 21st century and examine the life and poetry of John Donne whose metaphysical poetry celebrates both God and sex.

Well known photographer James Winspear has an exhibition in the URC and the URC is hosting more local talent with Rok Skool’s bands and singers including Sister Sister,La Luna and the Larynx as well as Lorna Collins, Lucy Ellie and the Hophead Band. The Red Lion will host Crysis, Chandni Nayee and the Roy Rad Band whilst Paolinos hosts Fable 44.

Branch Line is a play commissioned by Lindfield Dramatic Club and the Arts Festival and written by Robin Belfield, RSC director. In 1841 the London- Brigjton railway opened,passing to the west of the parish with a ‘ station for Cuckfield and Lindfield Towns’ on open land that was to become the town of Haywards Heath. The construction of the Ouse Valley branch line reached Lindfield in 1866 with a proposed station to the north of All Saints Church but the line was abandoned for financial reasons- or was it? Joining in with the Haywards Heath 175 years celebration of the railway, Lindfield Arts Festival will be parading on Sunday 18th September showing off the graffiti installation alongside handmade lanterns and the Popsteps dance troupe.

Lindfield Bonfire Society: Badge night is on Tuesday 6th September from 6.30pm at the Stand Up Inn in the High Street. This is a lot of fun and you can buy really useful wall calendars there. For more information contact www.lindfieldbonfiresociety.co.uk

Tiger Arts: The next lunchtime concert will be on Wednesday 14th September at 1pm in the United Reformed Church. Ali Steynor (piano) will entertain you. Ali is a singer,pianist and viola player based in Lindfield. She teaches piano, upper strings and music theory and gained her LRSM in instrumental teaching in 2014. She is also a keen composer and recently co-authored the first in a new series of tutor books for beginner flautists called “Get set! Flute!” Ali trained with Bromley Youth Music Trust then Durham University. She plays viola in orchestras and quartets. Lunches will be served from 12.15pm in the church hall. Admission is free but donations are welcome.

“ Beach week in Town.”: On at the Orchards Shopping Centre in Haywards Heath until Saturday 27th August. Lots of free fun with sandpits, Punch and Judy shows etc. Ice cream galore! Qualified helpers on hand to enable you to shop and relax. Contact Nicola Bird on 01444 410160.

Historical Celebrations: Hopefully you all know about the exciting events happening at the Historical Celebration on Sunday 18th September. There are lots of leaflets about with details. So after you have enjoyed Lindfield Arts Festival get yourselves down to Haywards Heath Station, Victoria Park and the town centre. The Grand Victorian Procession leaves from Clair Park at noon, goes via the Station and arrives at Victoria Park at 1pm. I shall certainly go and see the Model Railway Exhibition at the Dolphin Leisure Centre from 10am-4pm. I might even have a swim too-it’s far too long since I got in the pool and swimming lessons are pending! Part of the celebrations will be Railway Capers on Friday 16th September, a musical Victorian concert at Clair Hall. Listen to Blues,Vaudeville, Classical, Folk and Jazz.
