Scaynes Hill

Congratulations: to our lovely vicar Lisa Barnett and her husband Stephen on the birth of their son Ross. Now the hard work starts but hopefully the twins will be willing helpers.

The Queen’s Birthday: Can you help? St Augustine’s are hoping to serve home-made cakes and teas at the church in aid of Family Support Work during the Open Gardens on Saturday 2nd July. Please let the church know if you would be able to bake a cake or if you could spare an hour on the day to help serve teas. Any offers of help would be gratefully received! Many thanks.

War Memorial: As you may have noticed, the War Memorial has been taped off. This is merely a safety precaution and there is not thought to be any imminent danger to its structural stability. The Church is concerned, however, that the condition of the wooden Calvary has deteriorated and it requires some remedial work. In order to access specialist advice they have contacted the War Memorials Trust. This organisation is also a possible source of funding for the project. The WMT is experiencing heavy demand for its services at present and it will take several weeks before more is known. The hope is that work will be able to commence on the repair and conservation of the War Memorial before the winter.

Scaynes Hill Flower Show: This year’s Scaynes Hill Flower Show and Plant Sale will take place on Saturday 9th July 2016. The show will be open to the public from 2.00pm until 4.00pm. Competitive entries must be in place between 9.00am and 11.00am on the morning of the show. Schedules for the show should have been delivered around the village by now but spares are available from the Garage, The Sloop or from the back of the church. For more information please call Dianne on 831676

Scaynes Hill Fruit and Vegetable Share Scheme: The Fruit and Veg Share Scheme started again this week on Tuesday 28 June. If like me you missed the first week then don’t worry it will be running every Tuesday from 8.00am until 6.00pm outside the church. This scheme is open for everyone to join in with, whether you grow your own fruit and veg or not. If you have more than you need then please leave it on the table for others. If there is something on the table that you need then please just take it. No money is needed or exchanged.

Scaynes Hill Open Gardens: This years’ Open Gardens will be on Sunday 2 July. The gardens will be open from 1.30pm until 5.30pm. Tickets can be bought from the church for just £5.00 and there will be tea and coffee served in the Church Annex
