Gardiner Opticians, formerly at 89 Church Walk in Burgess Hill, have moved into newly refurbished premises at 9 Church Road.
Anne Jones MBE, Mayor of Burgess Hill, visited the new premises on Wednesday October 28 and was given a tour of the premises by owner Catriona Gardiner before formally opening the practice.
Gardiner Opticians, formerly Wendy Carey Opticians, have been a presence in the town for over 20 years.
Catriona Gardiner took over the business on Wendy’s retirement in 2012, having worked there as an optometrist for 15 years.
This small independent business has gone from strength to strength - the practice has been modernised with the addition of the latest optical equipment and computer technology whilst maintaining its reputation for providing excellent care and service.
The new premises were formerly home to Dockerills ironmongers, a much loved local business which closed in 2007 and the premises have been empty ever since.
Local architects Clive Voller Associates made up plans to excavate the basement to create sufficient space and Robert Simpson Construction have been working since May to create a new modern practice.
Owner and optometrist Catriona Gardiner said: “I am delighted to have made the move to our new premises after many months of preparation and planning.
“We are all thrilled to be moving into a spacious custom-designed practice enabling us to offer the excellent care and service we pride ourselves on.
“I loved the character of the old Dockerills building immediately, but could see that extensive refurbishment was required to bring it up to a modern standard.
“Thanks to our architects and builders we have achieved the modern design we were looking for whilst retaining the character of the building.”
