Five Year 7 Oakmeeds students have triumphed again in a Mid Sussex chess tournament.
The Chess Champions tournament was open to all young people under 18 in Mid Sussex and took place at Birchwood Grove School on 10 April. The Oakmeeds competitors did fantastically well, with Ben Sturgis winning Captains’ Challenge, Thomas Lawrence coming second in the Blitz game and Thomas Midmer winning the U12 age group.
The successful team were: Jude Harcourt, Thomas Lawrence, Thomas Midmer, Tom Rousell and Ben Sturgis. Their impressive team total of 20.5 points was enough to see the Oakmeeds team crowned as Best School in the tournament.
Oakmeeds’ Deputy Head, Mr Nelson, said: “This shows fantastic commitment (all day from 10:00am to 5:00pm) and is the third trophy won so far this year.
“These students are really committed to the value of chess and not only play to a high standard, but with full enjoyment.”
