Haywards Heath-based food writer and recipe developer Sam Bilton will be launching a monthly weekend supper club in October. The new dining experience, called Repast, will focus on intimate suppers with historical themes.

The Repast menus will take their inspiration from a historical person, event, traditional celebration or era. Rather than religiously recreating the food of our past, historical recipes will be used as a reference point to create modern dishes, served in Sam’s home. Each event will cater for up to 12 guests who will be free to bring their own wine to accompany the meal. The first events on October 30 and 31 will celebrate the age old Mexican festival of the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos). This spicy supper will feature Sam’s take on classic Mexican dishes like Mole and Chillies Rellenos. On November 27 and 28, Sam will prepare a feast inspired by celebrated food writer Jane Grigson who died 25 years ago, packed with autumnal flavours. Menus and bookings for these events are available on www.tabl.com
