Cats and staff alike will be getting into the festive spirit at Cats Protection’s National Cat Centre with a fantastic line-up of Christmas events.

The charity, in Lewes Road, Chelwood Gate, will be holding its Santa Grotto Day on Sunday December 6 from 12 noon until 2pm.

There will be a winter wonderland of fun activities including face painting, stalls, a raffle to win a Christmas hamper, and the chance for children to visit Santa in his grotto for just £3. Mid Sussex Choir will be performing carols at 12.30pm to lend some extra festive cheer.

Entry is free, but a tin of cat food would be a greatly-appreciated early Christmas gift for the cats currently in the care of the centre.

Other festive events include two extended shopping days on Thursday December 10 and Thursday December 17 where cat-lovers can stock up on Christmas gifts from 4pm – 7pm.

Shoppers will be able to enjoy mulled wine and mince pies as they browse the aisles of the centre’s shop, with a great range of gifts for friends, family and felines alike.

Deputy Manager of the National Cat Adoption Centre, Tania Marsh, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming children to come and meet Santa in his grotto, and the day will be a great excuse for all the family to get in the festive mood.

“Christmas is the most special time of year for getting together with family and friends, yet sadly we have many lovely cats in our care that won’t have a home of their own this year.

“So we hope anyone considering adopting a cat will pop along and say hello to the unwanted cats in our care, or have a chat with one of our staff.”

Cats Protection’s National Cat Centre, set in the Ashdown Forest, is open seven days a week and is a great free day out whatever the weather. With a café, shop and children’s play area, there is also a scenic nature trail to explore.

The National Cat Centre is situated in Lewes Road, Chelwood Gate, on the A275 between Wych Cross and Danehill. To find the centre using a SatNav, please use the postcode RH17 7DE or for a map and directions please visit www.cats.org.uk/find-us/find-the-ncc
