Haywards Heath Golf Club held their traditional Burns Night celebrations on Saturday 24th. Boosted by the new members it was a sell out event.
Even the club captain who hails from Manchester was claiming some tenuous links to a Scottish background. The Selkirk grace was read by Myra Taylor and then the great chieftain itself was paraded around the room by Chef Dennis O’Rourke accompanied by the bagpipes.
Irwin Taylor then gave a fluent and entertaining rendition of the address to the Haggis.
After a traditional Burns night menu, the keynote speaker David Gemmell gave a humorous speech to the immortal memory of Robbie Burns, high lighting the ups and downs of his life.
A light hearted toast to the lassies was given by Tom Sharp followed by a witty reply from Christine Kernohan.
The evening finished with a melody of Scottish songs and a more than a few drams of whiskey.
