HURSTPIERPOINT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: meets on Tuesday 14 March at 7.45pm in the Club Suite of the Village Centre to hear Graham Spencer talk about and show illustrations of Hardy Geraniums. He is the owner of Plants for Europe Ltd, the leading UK independent plant breeder’s agent, and previously he spent 15 years working in the family business of Croftway Nursery, specialist growers of hardy geraniums. He should provide an interesting insight into these popular garden plants. I have a few myself. Non members welcome.
HURST VILLAGE CINEMA: shows for its first film for this month Things to Come (12A) starring the talented French actress Isabelle Huppert. She plays a philosophy teacher who loses in turn her job, her mother and then for a while her husband. An elegant well crafted film on coping with surprises in life. MOTHER’S UNION: on Wednesday 15 March at 8.00pm, Holy Trinity Church, ‘Prayer Stations’ led by Revd. Debbie Beer. Many of you have experienced the prayer stations that Debbie has created on several occasions previously at Holy Trinity. Felt to be powerful and spiritually rewarding this gives another opportunity for participation, and visitors will be most welcome. Entrance is only £2, which includes tea/coffee and delicious home made cakes.
EVENT AT DANNY: on Thursday 16 March The Brighton Society has an evening of relaxation in aid of Alzheimer’s Society. Contact Danny for more info.
MUSICAL COFFEE MORNING: at Holy Trinity Church on Saturday 18 March from 10am to 12 noon. Enjoy a morning of relaxing and memorable music, as Ray Carpenter will be playing his keyboard, and entertaining with a variety of music from musicals and Latin American to light jazz. There will be stalls selling home made cakes, vintage items, charity cards, good as new, home made jewellery, and a special stall run by Hurstpierpoint Community Charity shop which is so missed in the village. Entrance is free, and Ray will be playing throughout the morning.
WEST GALLERY CONCERT: for this month is on Saturday 18 March. Frances Wise a singer/songwriter comes to entertain with her own style of music and the concert starts at 6pm and finishes at 7.30pm. There is a break halfway for a drink and a chat. The timing is to allow anyone to go on to other events afterwards. Tickets £5 are available by phoning Margaret Carey on 01273 835113 or e-mail email@example.com. Alternatively you just turn up on the night and pay at the door, but it helps to know numbers in advance.
SUNDAY CINEMA: on 19 March at 8pm screens the recent Ken Loach acclaimed film I,Daniel (15) which was a Palme d’Or winner at Cannes last year. The protagonists are Daniel Blake, who has worked all his life and Katie, a single mother with two children in a dead end situation, who come together but battle against welfare bureaucracy in modern day Britain.
HURSTPIERPOINT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: Spring Show and Plant Sale takes place this year on Saturday 25 March in the Village Centre at 2.15pm. Daffodils, spring flowers, floral art, cookery, photography and a children’s section. Bargain plants, homemade cake and tea, raffle and auction. Exhibiting is free and open to all, so pick up a schedule with full details from Gibsons in the High Street or email firstname.lastname@example.org and start planning your entries.
