ON Friday 4th April Lions Clubs from this area held an “Our Youth have Talent” social evening for youth clubs supported by them under their “Adopt a Youth Club” Scheme at Uckfield Civic Centre, hosted by members of Uckfield Lions Club.
It was attended by youth clubs in the scheme, with representatives from Newhaven’s Rock Solid, Chailey, Haywards Heath’s Albemarle , Burgess Hill and Hurstpeirpoint Youth Clubs, as well as representatives from the regional Lions Clubs, including their Vice District Governor, Lion Terry Mason, all mc’d by Uckfield Lion Chris Sherwood.
A short talk was given by a representative of the Sussex Youth Clubs before the evening got seriously under way, followed by a talent contest between the groups. Presentations of a polished and professional standard were given by representatives of the youth clubs showing how they found the support of the Lions Clubs in the partnership worked for them and the ways it and they had affected their communities. This was followed by a Quiz with all the adults and youth mixed up in teams. This became very competitive - it was obvious that logo’s and motto’s are much more understood by youth than by their elders!!
A buffet enabled all to network with one another, and for members of other clubs to talk to Albemarle’s Madeleine Longhurst who won the regional heats of the Lions Young Ambassador competition before being narrowly defeated in a close fought national final earlier in the year. The evening was eventually wound up by a short speech from Lion Terry Mason and a presentation to Haywards Heath Albemarle Youth Club as winners of a close fought Talent competition, narrowly won on the basis of ingenuity.
