On Sunday October 4, Market Place Shopping Centre in Burgess Hill hosted their second Silver Sunday event.
The nationally recognised event is aimed at celebrating older people and Market Place acknowledged this as a great opportunity to give something back to the community and to entertain the local senior townsfolk for the evening.
Master of Ceremonies and event Sponsor - Steve Hayman – joint Managing Director of Cheesmur Building Contractors – worked his way through the varied programme of activities with elegance and precision ensuring that the event was thoroughly enjoyed by the all in attendance.
The evening started with some gentle dance moves as local piano tutor Don Goodridge-Reynolds and his star pupil Sam Preston soon had the dance floor filled as they both demonstrated their wizardry on the keyboards!!
Sponsor, Anita Hayman of the Sussex Beauty Training School, demonstrated her Kick Steps routine and her gentle encouragement soon attracted enthusiastic participation as many of the crowd got up on their feet for a little light exercise and a lot of fun.
The Bombshells, a fantastic close harmony singing trio added to the brilliant entertainment with a set of songs from the 1940’s which was much enjoyed by the guests whilst they nibbled their way through the delicious buffet generously supplied and hosted by Waitrose. Guests were then treated to a couple of games of Free Bingo - winning prizes were kindly donated by Waitrose and Wilkos.
The Bombshells provided the finale to the event with a fantastic rendition of Dame Vera Lynn’s - We’ll Meet Again, which had the whole crowd singing along and swaying in time to the music – a great finish to an excellent event.
