A passion for baking in and out of the workplace has seen a local young starlet rise the ranks in her career.
Susie Graham-Hyde from Burgess Hill started work for South Downs Nurseries in Hassocks at the age of 15 in the coffee shop. This started a love of cooking and serving food of all types, but particularly that of the sweet variety.
Whilst improving her baking skills in and out of work, Susie has also been part of the family-run Tates garden centre’s on-the-job training scheme, allowing her to take part in relevant training courses to bolster her career.
She began on-the-job training three years ago and has recently completed her latest qualification, an NVQ level 3 in catering supervision. This is in tandem with taking on a key supervisory role in the new Barn Restaurant at South Downs which opened in January this year.
Susie’s baking skills have also been put to good use with cakes and biscuits developed by her now available for customers to purchase and enjoy.
South Downs Nurseries’ Manager Mark Hillyard paid tribute to Susie who has now been at Tates for 8 years. “Susie has worked really hard ever since she started with us, and it’s really great to see her developing a career with us whilst also doing something she loves.
“Tates believe in supporting loyal staff and helping them build a long term career, and I think Susie will be another in a long line of success stories.”
