On February 25th we celebrated our 70th Anniversary in the Old School Cuckfield .

23 members were present, the County Chairman Mrs Denise Carr and the County Treasurer Mrs Mary Reed and members from local Women’s Section branches also 5 members from the Cuckfield Branch.

Mrs Denise Carr presented a 70year National Certificate for the Branch to Mrs Peg Swain our President.

Denise Carr gave an interesting talk on her how she got involved in the Legion as a young child and her life now as the Women’s Section Chairman

Our Chairman spoke on our formation February 5th 1945 in the Congregational Hall when 21 members joined, by the end of the year 200 members had paid their subscriptions. Pre-school children attended meetings and the older ones came in after school. There have been some interesting meetings, events, dedication of standards and outings just a few highlights from the archives.

6 members received Branch Certificates of Appreciation for their loyal services to the Royal British Legion in Cuckfield Evelyn Stenning, Rosemary Carter, Peg Swain, Tina Owens, Mary Watts, Eleanor Gibson and Barbara Wiseman.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious tea with a piece of Celebration cake made by Sally Williams and decorated by Rosemary Carter.
