Scaynes Hill was full of celebration on Sunday May 17, as St Augustine’s School and St Augustine’s Church celebrated St Augustine’s Day with a joint service, led by Vicar of Scaynes Hill, Revd Lisa Barnett.
This is the second year that the school and church have gathered for a joint service to celebrate their shared name, and this year the theme was ‘The part I play….’ Members of the two village communities reflected on the part that each person plays in making the school and church the vibrant communities that they are within Scaynes Hill. Children from the school talked about the different roles that they play in their school community, as librarians, play-leaders, and members of the school council, while a church warden and member of the church council talked about their roles within the church. A particularly highlight was a performance by members of the after school dance club, ‘Pop-steps’ led by Becky Stevens (pictured). Mrs Tilney, headteacher of St Augustine’s School, commented, ‘It’s become a lovely annual opportunity for both school and church to come together for this celebration of our shared name.’
