Building on the fantastic work of Mr Andrew Giles, Tavistock & Summerhill School in Lindfield has recently announced the appointment of Dr Sandra Hastie their new school Head.

Dr Hastie is currently Head of Primary Education at Saint Kentigern School, which is one of the top Independent schools in New Zealand. During her recent visit to Tavistock & Summerhill School, Dr Hastie was struck by the obvious pride that the staff and students have for their school.

She said: “The friendliness and positive relationships between teachers and students immediately caught my eye, as did the family feel of the school. The senior students took great delight in showing me around and there was an obvious love, not only for their school, but for the teachers; who they told me were ‘fantastic and fun’.”

It has long been one of Dr Hastie’s goals to become Head of an English Preparatory School. She said: “Being head of this small but mighty school is indeed a privilege and I cannot wait to become part of this family. I am looking forward to getting to know the students, their families, and, of course, the staff team so that we can together continue to achieve the high academic standards that are already evident.”

Dr Hastie will take up her post in September 2015.
