On Saturday February 6 over 300 parents and leaders enjoyed themselves supporting their sons and daughters or groups at the Mid Sussex District Scouts Annual Cub & Scout Swimming Gala held at the Triangle Leisure Centre, Burgess Hill, organised by the Mid Sussex District Scout Active Support Unit.

31 Cub and Scout teams entered the competition with over 150 enthusiastic members swimming in 38 races encouraged from a packed viewing gallery and their Leaders poolside, many who were hoarse by the end of the evening. The support was so great that at times it ‘drowned out’ the announcements

A great night was had by all who attended and it was truly rewarding to watch these boys and girls swimming and taking pride in representing their Scout Groups.

A total of 38 races were held with the winners in each section not being decided until the very last race. The overall winners in the Cub section were 1st Cuckfield (38pts) with 10th Haywards Heath A (36pts) in 2nd Place and 10th Haywards Heath B (35pts) in 3rd Place and in 4th place 1st Hurstpierpoint (31pts).

For the Scout section, the overall winners were 10th Haywards Heath (49pts), in 2nd place 1st Haywards Heath A (47pts), in 3rd place 1st Ditchling (40pts) and in 4th place 1st Hurstpierpoint (28pts). The trophies were presented by Councillor Bruce Forbes Vice Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council, pictured with each winning team. It was a very enjoyable night for everyone enabling young people in Mid Sussex to experience new challenges; interact with others, gain confidence and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
