On the 5th February 2015 Downlands School participated in the National Schools Badminton Championship County Round at the Dolphin Leisure Centre in Haywards Heath for Years 7,8 and 9.

Eight schools were left fighting it out. The day started off with two convincing 5-0 wins for Downlands against Uckfield Community College and Durrington High School. This left a tricky match against Tanbridge House - the winner of this game would definitely go through to the final. A very tense affair ensued but Downlands came through with a storming 4 - 1 win. This set up a final against Willingdon Community School from East Sussex. In a hard fought match Downlands emerged victorious with another super 4-1 win.

The Downlands team members were: Tom Wood, Adam Davies, Josh Dummer and Ben Lynch.

This is a terrific achievement for the School, particularly as there is such a nice badminton sports facility here on the grounds. We can now genuinely say that we have the strongest school boys badminton team in this age group in the whole of Sussex (and as I’m sure you are aware Sussex is a very large county stretching from Chichester in the West, Rye in the East up to Crawley in the North).

We wish the boys good luck for the South East Regional Round which will take place in March. Success here would mean Downlands would make it through to the National finals to be held at Center Parks. We keep our fingers crossed.
