Older and younger people celebrated VE day in the Warden Park Primary School Community Room on 8 May, the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day - a day chosen to mark the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces.
Most of the older people who attended were primary school children themselves back in 1945 - and when the celebrations took place the most amazing thing for them was to be out on the street at night with lights on!
The Bentswood Community Partnership hosted this event for older people which included a cookery demonstration by IMPACT of a war time recipe, and a talk about rationing.
Lunch, cooked by IMPACT, in true VE style, was vegetable soup, corned beef fritters and a pudding. This was followed by a visit from the local schools choir which sang a few songs from the period.
Other pupils showed their learning journals from last year which were about WW1 and WW2.
