MEGA THANKS TO SO MANY regarding Wivelsfield Village Day 2015.

The Wivelsfield Village Day Committee would like to thank all their sponsors and volunteers who helped and supported Village Day 2015.

We would also like to thank all those who came and took part in the parade and to everyone who stayed with us for the day, we do hope you enjoyed yourselves!!

For those of you who don’t know, Wivelsfield Village Day is a fundraising opportunity, not for the Committee or the Village Hall but one for local Clubs, Charities and Businesses. It gives them the opportunity to showcase and raise funds and awareness. They keep all their profits made on the day. We have been really pleased to learn that many clubs and charities did really well this year, so on their behalf thank you to those of you who came and supported them by visiting their stalls!!

The Village Day Committee could not organise this event without the support from our very generous Sponsors. They not only help us run events and activities on the day, for example the parade, climbing wall, willow weaving, bird of prey display and main arena events but also help us pay for important costs such as insurance, security and parking, publicamenity hire, skip hire and the programme.

We will keep you updated on a regular basis through our Facebook page and hope that we will see you all again in July 2016.

COMMUNITY TEA CLUB NEWS. This year has been a hive of activity for The Tea Club. We have had visits from the Church Junior Choir and the School Choir, and we have been entertained by a very good singing group called “No Strings Attached”. We also had a talk by Vera Lynn’s daughter which was fascinating and informative. April saw nearly 50 of us going on an outing to Camelia Botnar where we had a talk on the work they do, plus a tour, and then they provided a delicious cream tea. We have lots more coming up. Rebecca Leggett will sing for us again in August. We will also have another slide show of the local countryside set to music, entertainment by members of the WLT, and a talk by the Hearing Dogs for the Deaf Association. Johnny B, who plays the keyboard and saxophone and sings 50’s & 60’s will also be coming to entertain us. Our catering team have been doing a sterling job providing sumptuous teas, and we would like to thank all those who have been involved in any way for the help and support that they have given us. We have recently received a very generous grant from the Sussex Community Foundation, which will allow us to continue our monthly teas for some time to come and also enable us to engage in some outreach in the community. We have built up a huge collection of vintage china --- around 60 - 70 place settings, plus cake stands, so if anybody would would like to borrow them for a small donation, then please contact Kay Breeds on 01444 471783. Also, if anyone would like to join the Club or help in any way, please contact Kay, on the number above. All new members and helpers will be gratefully received and welcomed.

WIVELSFIELD FILMS as is normal each year there will be no film in August but a note for diaries is Sunday 13th September when the film presentation will be the great “The Woman In Gold” starring Helen Mirren. Watch this space.

CAFE CHURCH on Sunday 16th August at 9.30am in the Village Hall -- join us for coffee and croissants from 9.00am

OUR NEWLY REFURBISHED CHURCH HALL Well, we have been waiting for a long time but the past month of July has given many local folk the opportunity to experience the newly refurbished Church Hall. It has been used for refreshments following our 10.30 Sunday services, by Lunch Bunch who had the privilege of being the first to use it, for light lunches, a Baptism party and by the Youth Club. Everyone seems to have been impressed and appreciative of this fantastic facility. The new tenants moved into the flat in the middle of July and seem to be settling in well having already joined in on one of the light lunches. Steve Onions is acting as Letting Secretary, so if you wish to use the Hall whether for a Church event, a community based activity, or for a private function then please contact Steve on 01273 890254 or via email on stevensue.onions@btinternet.com With just over £210,000 raised it is important that we maintain a strong focus on raising the remaining £40,000 so that we can quickly repay the money that has been loaned to us. If you feel you can help by making a donation, or, if you have donated already, by making a further donation, that would be fantastic. Also if you would like to help by sponsoring a particular piece of equipment that will be required in the Hall that would be fantastic too. There will be further fundraising activities as well so look out for these and please give them your support. For further details please contact one of the Church wardens, Steve Onions on 01273 890254 or Paula Wood on 01444 471242.
