MR HOLMES is the Christmas month film in December to be presented by Wivelsfield Films on Sunday December 6, in Wivelsfield Village Hall. Film at 7.30pm, door open and bar from 7pm. Mr Holmes is a new twist on the world’s most famous detective. In 1947, an ageing Sherlock Holmes returns from a journey to Japan, where, in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities, he has witnessed the devastation of nuclear warfare. Now, in his remote easier farmhouse, Holmes faces the end of his days tending to his bees, with the company of his housekeeper and her young son, Roger. Grappling with the dismissing powers of his mind, Holmes comes to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement, and searches for answers to the mysteries of his life and love - before it’s too late. Homemade cakes, Magnum ices in multi flavours and drinks served before the film and during the interval. Tickets £6 in advance from the Post Office and Village Stores and The Cock Inn, or online via the Facebook page for Wivelsfield Films or wivelsfieldfilms.wordpress.com.

COMMUNITY GARDENING SKILLS do you have some free time ? With the Church Hall now completed there’re a small border at the front of the Hall and it would enhance the appearance of the Hall tremendously if this could provide some colour during the year. We are looking for someone who would be willing to adopt this border, plant it up and maintain it. This might be an individual, a family or a group of friends. A small sum of money could be made available to help pay for the initial plants. It may be that suitable plants are donated by Church members.
