Two students from Oathall Community College recently performed on stage with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) at the Royal Festival Hall.
Nathanael Thomas-Atkin and Dominic Clark play with the West Sussex County Orchestra and they were invited to join the world-renowned LPO for the latest in their series of ‘Bright Sparks’ concerts.
Bright Sparks is an innovative education project which looks to bring the GCSE music curriculum to life for an audience of students and their teachers.
A group of Year 10 and 11 students from Oathall were also there on the day to see their classmates shine on stage.
Mrs MacTaggart, head of performing arts at Oathall said: “The whole day was wonderful, the performance was superb and what an amazing opportunity for our boys to rehearse and play in concert with the LPO at such an amazing venue. They did exceptionally well, we’re all so proud of them.”
The London Philharmonic Orchestra has a reputation as one of the UK’s most adventurous and forward-looking orchestras. As well as giving classical concerts it has made several film soundtracks, including the Lord of the Rings film series and The Hobbit film series!
