Great Walstead School is organising a second half marathon in aid of Tearfund with the specific aim of raising money for the typhoon disaster which hit the Philippines last year.
The 13-mile run through the school’s beautiful woods will be open to young and old, with a special event just for smaller children.
Last year’s event raised over £6,000 for Cancer Research UK. Claire Bridges, Great Walstead teacher who is organising the event, comments: “Last year we had over 200 runners. It was a fantastic day which raised a significant amount of money. We hope to achieve the same again this year. It is important that funds continue to reach the Philippines once the media focus has moved on. For example, just £42 gives clean water for 100 families, £60 gives 2 families food and supplies for 1 month.“
This year’s event is being held on Saturday 22nd March. Friends and family of Great Walstead are invited to compete as individuals or as part of a team.
