LETTER: Misconception over petition

I would like to correct Richard Cherry’s misconception that the Labour petition on free parking would lead to rail commuters taking advantage of free parking.

If he had read the petition he would learn that it asked for an initial period(three hours) free to allow greater use of the town centre facilities. He compounds concern when he suggest that that the people lacked integrity in doing so,(is that what he thinks of his electorate?)

Richard Cherry is a Conservative district and town councillor. He would do well to listen/ represent the needs of his residents, rather than just following the party line.

Did the councillors who threw out the petition actually read and understand it? He then says that the money raised helps to balance the council’s books. Is this the purpose of parking charges - why not Hassocks,Hurst.etc? When is the flooding of the multi storey carpark to be rectified?

Rather than writing political letters to the Middy he should be consulting and acting on behalf of his residents.

There is an urgent need for closer scrutiny at the one party district council!

PS will Mr Cherry be fighting to save the Martlets Hall in his ward?
