LETTER: No concern for town's culture

Referring to the article 'Deal struck to back new houses, jobs and rejuvenate town centre' (Middy February 23) in Burgess Hill, I wish to add some realism.

A science park, transport planning, employment opportunities, schools are clearly good for the town.

But how can our leaders, Louise Goldsmith, Garry Wall and Andrew Barrett-Miles be proud of a development which has no concern for the town’s culture?

Not only no concern, but which actually takes away the little which we have. The Martlets Hall is a venue for music, dance, meetings, pantomimes. It is shown to be valued by the community through a petition with more than 6,000 signatures. How can a community thrive without cultural provision?
