I read E Hetherington's letter (NHS anomoly, Mid Sussex Times. October 20) with great interest as I am a pharmacy dispenser.

You have not been given the right advice as it is a bit more in depth than your letter implies.

The quickest way to the get the medication you require is to ask the doctor to write the brand of the medication you need and the pharmacy that you use will dispense the brand for you regardless of what contractor they use and they will not incur special order expenses.

Contact your practice manager and ask for the brand to be put on your prescription and this will solve this issue for immediately. I am surprised the pharmacy you use did not suggest that you go back to the doctor as it is the doctors decision as to what medication is prescribed.
