Hurst girls through to national semi-final

Hurst's u15 girls' cricket team are through to the semi-finals of the School Sport Magazine National Cup after beating Felsted School, Essex, and having beaten the likes of Warden Park and Brighton College in previous rounds.

Felsted represented a stern test for these young cricketers as they had reached the final of the indoor tournament earlier this year.

Hurst batted first on a testing wicket and were put under pressure by a strong Felsted attack. A mature innings from Jess Young, 33*, set the foundations for Hurst to reach a defendable 116 off their 20 overs.

Felsted got off to a strong start in their chase but wickets for Olivia Giles and four for Sophie White put Hurst in charge.

The girls can now look forward to representing the South East region in the semi-finals after their 41 run victory, and are looking to emulate Hurst’s boys’ 1st XI who were crowned National T20 champions in 2015.

Head of Girls’ Cricket Tina Towler said, “Cricket has grown hugely for girls at Hurst over the last four or five years and to reach the latter stages of this tournament is amazing. This talented group of girls fully deserve the recognition for their commitment to and love of the game.”

The semi-finals are scheduled for September.
