Lindfield hang on for draw against title favourites Eastbourne

Lindfield's travelled to title favourites Eastbourne last Saturday and came away with a highly creditable draw.

On winning the toss Lindfield asked Eastbourne to bat and were soon had some encouragement with the home side struggling at 142 for 4. However, a superb innings of 109 by Jacob Smith transformed the game enabling Eastbourne to reach 250 for 6. Lindfield’s best bowling coming from Tem Hodson who took 3 for 39 in 9 overs.

Despite the loss of an early wicket Lindfields innings grew with confidence as it reached 82 with Simon Shivnarain (34) and Tem Hudson (41) batting with confidence. The unfortunate loss of Shivnarain resulted in regular wickets falling, 5 of which were LBW as the Lindfield’s innings fell short despite the efforts of Shane Wilson Yelverton (36) and Declan Martel (34) at 180 for 9 with the last pair batting out the last 6 overs to claim a draw. Eastbourne’s Smith had a great all round game taking 4 for 38 in 17 overs.

This Saturday Lindfield entertains Three Bridges on the Common.

Lindfield 2nd XI v Eastbourne 2ndXI​ - Result. Draw

Lindfield drew their first league game of the season in the top flight on a glorious spring day. Eastbournce batted first on a beautiful wicket and soon raced to 126 for 1. It was only with the introduction of Steve Pearce 2 for 71 in 21 and Gareth Padgett 1 for 33 in 9 overs that slowed the run rate down. Lindfield’s efforts were not helped by some poor fielding as Eastbourne scored 238 for 5.

Lindfield’s innings started well with Jack Sadler (22) and Scott Clark (23) scoring briskly. However, some stunning out-fielding changed the course of the game as Lindfield soon found themselves 66 for 4. Despite some big hitting from skipper Gareth Court (31) and the best efforts from Gareth Pagett (49nt) and Nathan Pugh (18) Lindfield struggled to keep up with the run rate and had to settle for a draw at 160 for 5. This week Lindfield 2nd XI travel to Three Bridges.

Lindfield 3rd XI v Balcombe 2ndXI

Despite a herculean effort from Nigel Cannon who took 7 for 32 in 14.2 overs Lindfield 3rd XI suffered a 98 run defeat against Balcolmbe 2nd XI.

Batting first Balcombe raced to 180 for 3 but collapsed to 207 all out. For Balcombe Guy Dutton scored (77) and Dudley Owen-Thomas scored (85).

In reply, Lindfield’s very young side struggled to come to terms with the wicket and bowling and regularly lost wickets despite the best efforts from Adrian Whear (42). The innings passed 100 due to the efforts of youngsters Danny Bulgin (12) and Ross Pedley (17) who batted with great determination and skill.

This week the 3rd XI visit Chailey which promises to be one of the hardest games of the season.

Edenbridge 2nd XI v Lindfield 4thXI​ - Edenbridge 2nd XI won by 10 wickets

The opening bowling attack from Edenbridge was far too strong for a ‘ring-rusted’ Lindfield side. Despite the heavy defeat Lloyd Fielder and Matt Steadman performed with much credit. This week the team will entertain Brunswick Village at Hickman’s Lane hoping to bounce back with a better around performance.
