Brighton manager Chris Hughton is hopeful striker Bobby Zamora will return to the squad for Saturday’s home game with MK Dons.

Zamora, who has scored twice this season, missed the 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday with a foot injury on Tuesday and Hughton said: “He did a session today and will train tomorrow. We’re very hopeful that he’ll be available for Saturday.”

On what he adds to the squad, Hughton said: “Where he is important is that it’s an area of the park where you generally are going to make changes. All the forward creative areas, the wide areas and the strikers, you are either making changes to the personnel that’s playing or certainly you’re making changes in a game to effect the outcome of a game.

“He is the only one we have who’s that type of player - that real sort of target number nine player, so that perhaps makes it even more important. Hopefully, tomorrow he’ll come through and will be available for Saturday.”

Club captain Gordon Greer could come back into contention but Kazenga LuaLua is out until after the international break.

Hughton said: “Gordon did a lighter session today and will train tomorrow and we’ll assess that one again. It’s a minor problem so it’s not something that we are overly concerned with looking forward.

“Kazenga we’re hoping will be available after the international break.”

On MK Dons, Hughton said: “The playing style they have is very expansive, very much based on a passing game.

“We know what type of game to expect. We certainly know how they will play and we just need to make sure we’re of a standard that will get us the result that we want.”

The game is the last before an international break and Hughton said: “Generally, we’ve welcomed the international break. It’s a tough, competitive league and we’re just on the back of a midweek game.

“It is an opportunity for the players and the management staff to regroup, to analyse and try to improve the areas that you need to improve.

“We don’t have another break until well into the new year, so I think this will be a more valuable one than the last two.”
