Useful point in Kent stretches unbeaten run to seven games
Burgess Hill FC 2012-13
Hillians had a tough trip to Kent on Saturday and made it seven league games unbeaten as they returned with a useful point.
Former Hillian Sam Tucknott, recently signed from Merstham, was named in the starting X1, while other new signings Max Howell and Jeffrey Mahadoo were included amongst the subs, along with Kit Tregear back from his loan spell at Shoreham.
Both teams started well, with Hill trying to play a passing game in windy conditions. Mark Zawadski made a couple of good saves from the lively Richard Atkins but the visitors had two decent chances of their own, with the normally prolific Pat Harding missed from just inside the box and the best chance falling to Lloyd Cotton, who found himself unmarked at the far post but failed to hit the target.
The second half began with the Hillians defence under pressure and they fell behind five minutes in when when they failed to clear a free kick and the resulting cross was duly converted from just outside the six yard box by Atkins.
The home side were keeping the Hillians back four busy at this stage but with assistant manager Stuart Tuck having another solid game alongside Toby Phillips, they managed to stay in the match, with help from another Zawadski save.
Three positive substitutions helped revive the visitors’ fortunes, with Kai Bichard, Howell and Mahadoo all added to the forward line to support Harding.
Bichard came closest when he linked well with Harding to get free down the left and forced a good save from the home keeper. Tuck was then pushed up front and it was his knock-on that earned the all-important corner.
Next up for Hillians is a home game against local rivals Three Bridges this Saturday.
