Notts continued their comeback after lunch thanks to more great work by Rikki Wessels.

He extended his fightback innings superbly and looked certain to complete a century but the runs slowed as he neared the 90s before he got himself caught out by Luke Wells at mid-on off Ollie Robinson for 94.

Wessels and his partner James Taylor added another 80 runs in a partnership which produced 144 runs for the fourth wicket before he eventually went with the score on 174.

Wessels hit a total of 13 boundaries and a six.

The wicket was a breakthrough for Sussex and heralded another soon after when Samit Patel was caught and bowled by Robinson for 9.

This was Robinson’s fourth wicket of the match out of five to have fallen so far, making him Sussex’s stand-out bowler with figures of 4-46 off 17 overs.

Jamie Taylor continued to push the score on, scoring his 50 off 119 balls in 172 minutes and featuring five boundaries.

The highlight of his innings was a six hit off Matt Hobden which helped push the score on to 222-5 at tea.

Taylor was still there on 69 not out and new batsman Chris Read was unbeaten on 15.
