Jenny shows her versatility but Heath still lose

TWO goals in the first 10 minutes were enough to send Haywards Heath 2nds to a disappointing 2-0 league defeat at home to Rusthall on Sunday, when the 1st team’s opponents Hassocks were unable to fulfil the fixture.

The Tunbridge Wells visitors were quick off the mark but Heath were soon in the running, with some strong breaks by Jinny Ursell and player-of-the-match Casey Dunford.

At the other end Jenny Chiumento produced some excellent saves to keep her team in the hunt and after the break she again impressed when coming out of goal to play in midfield. Gill Scovell took over between the sticks.

After the break Mel Bramley rounded the keeper but was unable to convert the chance and Dunford and Ursell both went close.

Heath were getting on top and sub Charlie Wright cracked a superb shot against a post before seeing her follow-up effort saved.

Despite applying increasingly heavy pressure, Heath’s luck was out again in front of goal.

Rusthall did not have a single shot in the second half but for all their efforts, and the superb effort of Chiumento, Heath were destined to finish pointless.

This weekend the 1st team visit Dartford, while the 2nds hope to arrange a friendly.

Team: Chiumento; Guest, Gittins, bowie, Wickham (Bramley, 34), Dix (Scovell, 45), Gale-Chambers, Creasey, Salmon (Wright, 65), Dunford, Ursell. Unused sub: Ford-Hunt.
