On Saturday 9th May, members of Haywards Heath Golf Club played the Atchley and Coronation Cups. This is a Mixed Foursomes Medal event where ladies who played in the Spring Meeting the week before invite a gentleman to play with them in this event.

The handicap allowance is exactly half of the combined handicap of each pair. The Coronation Cup is awarded to the winners of the scratch competition and the Atchley Cups to the couple with the lowest exact nett score.

The weather looked a little unsettled and we all thought we would get wet. However, although the wind was very high, we only had a sprinkling of rain. Some excellent scores were recorded and everyone seemed to enjoy the day.

In the evening, there was a prize giving in the clubhouse followed by a delightful meal prepared by our resident chefs. An excellent evening was had by all, with the winners celebrating in style with champagne.

The winners of the Coronation Cup (gross 1st prize) were our Captains, Kath Honeysett and Mark Gerken who scored gross 82. In second place, with gross 83, were Sheila Marshall and Andy Spencer. Third prize went to Avril and Andy Plowright with gross 85, on count back from Lorna Tuttle and Brian McCulley.

Winners of the Atchley Cups (nett winners) were, once again, our Captains, Kath Honeysett and Mark Gerken with a nett 66.5. Although players can win more than one cup, they can only win one prize. Therefore, 1st prize went to Liz Barrett and Andy Crook who scored nett 68. 2nd prize went to our Vice Captains, Sarah Brook and Martin Hubbard with nett 69.5. The 3rd prize went to Judi and Doug Fisher, who scored nett 70.5.

Well done to all our prize winners.
