Burgess Hill Runners congregated again this week as 74 adult club members and 15 juniors, a club record in total, made their way to the Lewes 10k which forms part of the West Sussex Fun Run League and the club’s chosen Championship races.

After a close race between James Collins and Paul Sargent, returning from injury, James narrowly finished ahead in 7th with a time of 37:09 Paul, 8th in 37:20.

The ladies were led home by Liz Carter in a time of 51:18. The juniors were led home with an in-form Amy Mills who finished in 15th with a time of 5:48 for the one mile event.

Previously, on Saturday, Darren Chilcott, Philippe Ecaille, Andrew Baillie and Jan Lavis made their way to the South Downs Way 50 Miler which runs from Worthing to Eastbourne.

It starts with 6 miles of chalky footpaths and bridleways climbing up to the South Downs Way.

It then follows 44 miles of the popular South Downs Way 100 and ends on the track at Eastbourne. Darren was delighted to finish inside the cut off with 9:51:18 and Philipe in 11:45:05.

Due to injury and illness Andrew and Jan weren’t able to complete the distance, highlighting just how difficult it is but should still be proud of their efforts.
