The Burgess Hill Runners’ cross country teams were in action again this weekend, this time at Lancing.

The hilly event is the third of four events in the Sussex Cross Country League and the club were pleased to field a full team in the 3 mile women’s event and two teams in the 5 mile men’s event.

Emma Leeson, Clare Payne and Vicky Connolly finished in 26:19, 29:35 and 29:35 respectively to finish 19th out of 23 in the women’s Division 2 on the day. Paul Sargent (34:00), James Collins (34:33), Jon Boxall (36:15) and Jason Collett made up the men’s a-team who finished in 5th place in Division 2 for the day whilst Neil Grigg (36:49), Glynn Merritt (39:06), Ian Jones (41:39) and Stuart Condie (41:42) made up the men’s b-team in Division 3. Also competing were Daniel Belton (44:37) and John Palmer (45:11).

Gary Woolven and Andrew Murrell ran the Seaford Striders ‘Mince Pie 10’, a hilly 10 mile race with a mince pie reward to the finishers.

They completed the event in impressive times of 1:08:10 and 1:17:07 respectively.

Jon Boxall, Steve Bird, Caz Wadey and Eileen Adlam took part in another cold, hilly, local event, the “Downland Devil 9” in Worthing. Results were unavailable at time of writing.

Jan and Jon Lavis ventured further afield for the Thanet 10 mile road race.

Jan was 29th female, completing the course in 1:28:11 and Jon followed not far behind in 1:34:36.
