At the recent Sussex LTA Awards ceremony, Weald teams and players picked up a handful of trophies, proving the Club is still reaching high standards of play.

The Men’s 1st Team won Adult Team of the Year as well as the trophy for Summer and Winter County League doubles and the Mixed 40/45 Team took the Mike Comber Cup as County Champions. Tom Burke won the Howard Robbins Award for outstanding sportsmanship both on and off court. The Club has also achieved Tennismark accreditation for 2015 – this has been both a successful and satisfying year for The Weald

Play in Winter League matches continued with just two matches last weekend. The Men’s 5th Team played Wickwoods 3rd Team with Peter Cuthbertson and Colin Titshall having a very close match against Robert Hempenstall & Michael Billington, the Wickwoods pair taking it 7-5, 7-5.

Stuart Thornton & Luke Thatcher managed a win against Ian Palmer and Gordon Parry, with another tight match, 7-5, 6-3.

In the second rubber, Peter & Colin beat Ian Gordon 6-2, 6-4 but Stuart and Luke were defeated by Robert & Michael 6-2, 6-3, giving a 2-2 draw.

The Ladies 1st Team played away at Hampden Park, playing their experienced 1st Team.

Petra Sedova and Clare Davenport managed a satisfying victory over Sascha Morris & Jenny Hughes 5-7, 6-2, 1-0, but Tilly Loughton and Susan Gregory found tough opponents in Kate Bloomfield & Helen Mitchell, losing 0-6, 2-6. Petra & Clare then took on Kate and Helen, winning 7-5, 6-4, but once again Tilly & Susan were somewhat outclassed by Sascha & Jenny, who won 6-1, 6-3; another 2-2 draw.
