An epic weekend for Burgess Hill Runners began with the almost inconceivably long “South Downs Way 100”, a 100 mile race from Winchester to Eastbourne.

This week the 3 Burgess Hill Runners who took part in the run weren’t given the relief of being part of a relay team and had to combat the entire mammoth task. They weren’t entirely alone though and Jan Lavis, Philippe Ecaille and Darren Chilcott were well supported by fellow club mates who ran portions of the run with them. Not only that, several excitable club members staffed one of the aid stations up at the Clayton windmills and made every effort to ensure all runners were refreshed and cheered up as they headed for the final third of their journey. Presented with a special buckle for completing this within 24 hours (23:43:31) was the ever impressive Jan Lavis. Darren Chilcott did fantastically to complete 70 gruelling miles before sadly, but sensibly, having to pull out after experiencing dizzy spells in the humid conditions. Philippe was delighted to complete the race within the 30 hour cut off with a superb time of 28:40:57. All three runners won the respect of their club mates for their awesome efforts.
