On what started out as a wet and windy morning on Wednesday 5th August, fourteen juniors from Haywards Heath Golf Club set out to play in the Junior Championships.
The older juniors played a 36-hole Medal competition, with the younger juniors playing a 9-hole competition. For some of the younger juniors it was their very first competition, therefore they were accompanied on the course by the Juniors’ organisers and other members of the Club.
The weather improved for the afternoon round, giving a warm and sunny finish to the competition.
The overall winner of the 36-hole Junior Championship was Jak Alcock with gross 79 in each of his rounds, giving an overall gross of 158. In second place Greg Hollis scored gross 86 in the morning and 83 in the afternoon, giving a total of 169 for the two rounds.
The Rosebowl for the best nett score in the morning round went to Charlie Baldock, who shot a nett 68.
In the 9-hole competition, the winner of the group who had already gained a handicap, was Archie King. From those who did not have a handicap, the winner was Bradley Frankland.
After the competition there was a supper for the competitors and the adults who had helped on the day, during which the prizes were presented by Vice Captain, Martin Hubbard.
