Dick Heaver was Captain of Haywards Heath Golf Club seventeen years ago. His wife, Margaret, presented the Salvers to the Club in his memory, to be played for annually in a Mixed Foursomes competition.
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon on Friday 31st July when 33 couples set out to play for the Dick Heaver Salvers. In the evening everyone returned to the Club for a feast of Steak and Ale Pie, which had been one of Dick’s favourites.
Prior to the meal, the presentation was made to the winners by Margaret Heaver, herself a former Ladies’ Captain of the Club. The winners, with 40 points, were Liz Barrett and Andy Crook. The picture shows Liz and Andy being presented with their Salvers by Margaret, who holds a picture of her late husband.
Also with 40 points, but losing on countback, were the Club Captain, Mark Gerken and his wife Julie. In third place, with 38 points, were Les Chandler and Trish Burton. Well done to all the winners.
