Sargent leads Burgess Hill Runners home in Brighton Marathon

The 6th annual Brighton Marathon took place this Sunday and as usual attracted large numbers of runners for the fast, flat course.

As always, Burgess Hill Runners provided their fair share of determined entrants, dotting the famous sky and royal blue shirts amongst the masses.

Paul Sargent was the first Burgess Hill Runner to finish in an astounding time considering he only recently returned to running, of 3:00:49. Jason Collett was not far behind with an impressive new PB of 3:05:52, Neil Grigg (3:13:46), Gary Woolven (3:17:30, first time), Mark Nicholls (3:19:09), Andrew Bishop (3:21:08), Jon Boxall (3:33:36), James Sorbie (3:35:26, PB), Glyn Merritt (3:37:30, PB), Benny Coxhill (3:49:55, PB), Darren Chilcott (3:53:02), Simon Thompson (3:59:05, first time), Andrew Murrell (4:01:43), Jonathan Herbert (4:03:09), Jackie Osborne (4:08:49, PB and first BHR lady), Lee Crow (4:13:13, PB), Andrew Gasson (4:13:15, first time), Mark Lavis (4:17:41), Tim Coxhill (4:22:29), Vicky Connolly (4:23:10), Katia Hannah (4:23:40, first time), Helen Slater (4:24:32, PB), Mark Craigs (4:24:44, PB), Catherine Kempton (4:26:11), Emma Leeson (4:47:41, first time), Claire Tucknott (4:47:46), Sally Symes (4:50:54), Olivia Lourens (4:51:03), Jay Wadey (4:51:44, PB), Alan Fry (4:52:15), Philippe Ecaille (4:52:15), Melanie Acres (4:52:36), Carole Mills (4:52:50, PB), Hannah Brett (4:56:58), Jen Crowley (5:05:34, first time), Nina Ecroyd (5:07:42, PB), Claire Trotter (5:07:44, first time), Claire Giles (5:30:51, first time) and Hannah Watkins (5:30:54, PB).

The Marathon now includes a 10k as part of the weekend for people that want to run faster or a shorter distance. Speedy newcomer to the club, Steve Bird, ran a new PB with a spectacular time of 40:55.

Meanwhile, across the English channel, Theresa Chalk and Helen Pratt ensured the Paris Marathon wasn’t without a bit of Burgess Hill glamour. Theresa shattered her Marathon PB with a très bien time of 4:59:16, Helen finished in 5:17:56.
