Nick's on the gold standard

WARDEN PARK pupil Nick Jarvis struck gold at the British Schools Score Orienteering Championships in Petworth Park.

Year 7 student Nick won his class by a convincing margin, visiting 26 controls in 45 minutes, six more than his closest rival, while another Sussex orienteer, Edward Lines from Hove, was delighted to pick up a silver medal.

Also competing were Jonathan Crickmore, Chris Lambert and Jenny Tucker from Downlands Community School in Hassocks.

In the Year 10/11 competition, Crickmore finished fourth and Lambert 27th. Tucker was 23rd in the same age group for girls, while Bryony Crickmore, who attends Roedean School, was sixth in 12/13 event.

The juniors were cheered on by Southdowns Orienteers team-mate Lucy Thraves.

A total of 340 competitors from 57 schools took part.
