No messing from Nomads
Preston Nomads are the team they all have to catch in the Sussex Premier League after polishing off Horsham in double quick time on Saturday.
But Cuckfield put themselves well up in the chasing pack with an excellent victory over Brighton & Hove, while Haywards Heath had to settle for a draw at home to fellow strugglers Three Bridges.
Horsham were sent tumbling to 86 all out as Preston Nomads' Nick Hobbs grabbed 5-23 and Carl Simon took 3-34 before Joe Gatting took it as a personal target by cracking 75 not out from 35 balls to take his side to 88 without loss from only 49 deliveries.
Cuckfield chased down an impressive total of 248-9 set by visitors Brighton & Hove. Of that, Guy Williamson hit 64, Tim Jarvis 42 and Curtis Ford 33 not out, with Williamson and Ford adding 98 for the ninth wicket.
For Cuckfield, Ben Collins took 3-43 and Dan Bowman 3-28 before Bowman then shared a century stand with fellow 19-year-old Matt Boote to get the reply off to a flying start. Boote followed up his 88 a week earlier with 86 and Bowman made 56, while Jason Oates waded in with 47 as the home side won with 12 overs and five wickets to spare.
At Clair Park, Haywards Heath did well in the field but paid for a slack spell late in the Three Bridges innings as the visitors finished with 230-9 that was probably 20 or 30 more than they could have reasonably expected most of the way. Skipper Mark Newell made 68 and Danny Alderman 48.
Heath then finished 10 short of victory at 221-9 as Charlie Dowdall hit 56,Tom Dowdall 42 and captain Steve Kingcome 43. Alderman completed a good match with 4-48 and again formed a formidable bowling partnership with Jigar Parekh (4-82).
Eastbourne declared at 241-6 at home to lowly Lewes Priory as Mark Tomsett made 50,Ben Brown 47 and Tom Smith 45. Leg spinner Simon Birch took 3-51.
Lewes were then dismissed for 169 despite 50 from Tom Sharp as Smith completed a good match with 6-51 and Ollie Rayner took 3-63.
East Grinstead enjoyed a comfortable five-wicket win at Hastings after bowling out the hosts for 197, of which Toby Finzell made 32, and Pepla Sandri and Jason Finch 33 each. Most successful bowler was Aussie Cullen Bailey took 4-67.
Grinstead skipper Alex Edwards then hit 74, as Tim Wilson and Will Atkin each made 41 not out to take their side to 201-5 in the 43rd over.
