This was a handicap event and with the tenacious Tony Smith receiving a 45 start against the spectacular Stuart Williamson, the frame went to its full potential with Williamson fighting off a brave display by Ansty’s Smith homing in with a 125-111 win.

Hurst went two up when the no fuss Martin Payne overcome the 45 handicap given to the tough nut to crack Richard Markwick who commenced brightly but to see Payne coming back with a classy performance to win 125-107.

The combative Phil Hoad was given a 15 start over the dashing Bill Cope and it was Cope who took the early lead, Hoad was fully aware of the importance to take the frame to keep his team from losing the match, he dug in to beat Cope 125-115.

The enthusiastic crowd were now kept on their toes as the storming Lance Gibson came to the table to endeavour to gain the equaliser against the marauding Lee Morley, it also meant that if the draw was achieved, cumulative points secured by both teams would come into place, Hurst having a 22 points lead going in to the final frame. Morley receiving a 5 handicap took an early lead but to find Gibson knuckling down to claw back the deficit, the crowd were now keeping a close eye on the points scored as the frame came to its conclusion.

Gibson won 125-94 which gave Ansty a 9 cumulative points victory 468-459 to become Clowes Cup Champions, the referee Roy Tucknott commented on the great spirit shown throughout the final by both teams and all of the supporters.
