JPMT. Hockey. Mid Sussex I v Lewes II's
The Mid Sussex senior men’s teams won to stay in lofty positions in their respective leagues.
Both the 1st and 2nd teams beat Crawley, with the senior side winning 3-0 to stay second to Burnt Ash in Kent/Sussex Division 2.
The 2nds romped to a 9-0 victory over their Crawley counterparts to remain top. In a one-sided affair, the floodgates opened with an early goal from a penalty corner by captain Morgan.
More followed swiftly with a deft deflection from Dovey and an own goal that resulted from a powerful Livesley cross.
Crawley legs tired in the second half, allowing Middies to play their attractive brand of pass-and-move hockey and rack up more goals through Livesley, Hamish (2), Seb (2) and Prior.
The latest in a series of hard-fought encounters ended with the 3rd team beating Brighton Brigands 1-0 to go into the mid-season break at the head of the table.
There was a whirlwind start where both teams attacked with gusto and the tempo never slackened throughout.,
Middies kept their shape and composure during an even first half and eventually an incisive pass by Collins put in R Manger, who converted from the top of the circle with a ferocious reverse drive.
Middies created further opportunities but a good keeper kept them out. And it was much the same after the break as quick, aggressive, muscular and talented opposition stretched the leaders all the way.
Middies will draw many positives from their performance in this game and it only a pity the break has come at a time when they seemed to be operating smoothly and effectively as a unit.
Mids 4ths remain top despite a draw against local rivals St Francis.
Despite dominating possession for long spells, Mids went a goal down when keeper Ben Harris was beaten from close range.
Mids pushed forward in the second half with Shaw, Tyers and Kelly all going close. Jamie Divall scored the equaliser from a well struck short corner to set up a final frantic 10 minutes.
However Mids could not find the winner and had to settle for the draw after Forshaw was sent off.
Mids Colts produced a stunning second half display to defeat a strong Horsham side 5-4 in a pulsating match. Both sides fielded county juniors which led to a high quality match.
Ed Lemay hit a hat-trick and the other scorerers were Alex Shaw and Constantine Ulbrich.
