St Francis I's (green) v South Saxons (blue)
IT HAS been raining goals for St Francis since the Christmas break but on Saturday at the Triangle they were matched by South Saxons in an exciting 6-6 draw.
Not surprisingly, Saints started confidently but a couple of early goals by the visitors somewhat dampened spirits.
Newcomer Ed Marsh did pull one back but Saxons restored the two-goal cushion before half time.
Something drastic was needed to change things around and it came with an inspirational half-time team talk.
Goals by Oli Keating (2) and MoM Chris Batchelor (3) highlighted a spectacular second-half performance but Saxons refused to be brushed aside and a last minute equaliser from a short corner gave the visitors a share of the spoils.
Braving the cold at Hailsham were Burgess Hill 1st team but they were out of luck in their top-table clash as they slipped to a first league defeat of the season.
The 1-0 scoreline reflected how tight it was between the two teams, who have moved well clear of the rest of the pack. Hill won the home clash but Hailsham boasted a far superior goal difference.
Hill left half Johanna Lawless had a storming first half but it remained goalless until Hailsham struck from a short corner routine that left keeper Harriet Dakin unsighted.
After that Hill pressed strongly but their efforts were repelled by a well organised defence
