Home and away wins
THERE were 3-2 wins for Burgess Hill’s lower teams on Saturday.
The 3rds entertained Brighton 5ths at the Triangle in what proved an evenly fought game.
It was only late on that Hill sealed victory when Tanisha Bolton slammed home a fine cross by Kristina Marsh to make it 3-1.
Hill had bossed much of the second half, with Imogen Orchard and Marina Holden able to push forward from the back and Jodie Gower supplying the bullets from midfield.
The home side had gone ahead in the first half when Georgie Mellor’s long through ball was chased down by Helena Gray and played to the penalty spot where Sharon Scott supplied the finish.
Scott made it 2-0 after the break but Brighton kept it tight with their opener before Bolton made the decisive strike. Brighton then grabbed a late second.
The 4ths beat Brighton 6ths by the same score at the Stanley Deason but had to come from 2-1 down at the break.
Hill bossed the early stages and went 1-0 up through Emily Bryant. But they were trailing until Jill Brotherton finished a good move that also involved Wendy Caddye, Ciara Branagan and the influential Chris Mclellan.
Branagan also claimed a major assist as Brotherton netted the winner.
