He told Middy Sport: “I thought I boxed well, and I had a high work rate, but he didn’t allow me to box as well as I know I can as he was quite a messy fighter, tying me up and fighting on the inside. I was able to win by working hard on the inside and boxing well on the outside.

“I was really happy to win. This Saturday I’m boxing in the Southern Counties ABA championships, which will take me to the England Championship finals at the Echo arena, Liverpool.”

McFadden cites his heroes as Mike Tyson and Canelo Alvarez and wants to emulate their feats.

He said: “At the moment my goal is to box for Team GB. But overall, like most boxers, I want to become world champion as a professional.”
