Phil leads home strong Harriers contingent as they bid for final honours

The Crowborough 10k was the last race in the 2012 Sussex Grand Prix and it was all legs blazing for Haywards Heath Harriers as they tried to secure top places in the team leagues, the results for which will soon be calculated.

A total of 15 members took on the two-lap hilly course, but frosty and wet conditions meant that they were unable to run through the brook, the unique feature of this race.

Phil Hardaway was first back in 36.33, a great time on a tough course to finish seventh in a field of more than 380. He was followed by Russ Mullen in 37.56 for 11th and Tom Mullen 38.09 for 14th. The Harriers trio finished third in the men’s team competition.

Also running well to finish in the top 50 were Graham Hart 27th in 39.59, Phil Payne 37th in 41.40 and Richard Sutor 47th in 42.16.

For the ladies, Mags Lazell was second in the FV1 category with 46.12 for 106th, Marion Hemsworth recorded 52.06 for a brilliant first place in her FV6 category and Maureen Rae 60.11 for second in the FV7 category.

Also running were Carl Bicknell 45.45, Amanda Soper 48.58, Kat Barrett 49.07, Mark Sykes 49.35, Peter Cobbett 55.19 (after a 4hr23 finish in the Florence marathon a week earlier) and Kim Callow 57.43.
