Plumpton to host all-women bike ride in Olympic year

A SERIES designed to inspire women to take take up serious cycling was launched in 2011 and this year one of the seven venues will be Plumpton Racecourse.

Participate Sport Ltd started the women-only Cycletta cycling series and inspired 2,000 women to get on their bikes and ride 40km alongside olympic and World track champion Victoria Pendleton.

In London Olympic year, Plumpton will host the fifth event in the series on September 30.

Each Cycletta ride will feature all the unique features that made the 2011 event so popular. Riders will face a 40km safely managed route on quiet country roads, with treat stops along the way and then the pamper zone at the finish.

All riders will be able to tap into pre-event training advice, cycle fashion wear and a range of motivational information.

Cycletta ambassador Victoria Pendleton MBE said: “Being able to cycle with so many girls was one of my highlights of 2011 and 2012 should be a special year. I hope thousands more will join me this year.”

Cycletta’s charity partner is Macmillan Cancer Support and entries are now open at www.cycletta.co.uk

Other venues are Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire (May 13), Lydiard Park, Wiltshire (June 24), Ragley Hall Warwickshire (July, date to be fixed), St Michael’s Mount, Cornwall (September 15), Tatton Park, Cheshire (October 7) and Beaulieu Palace, New Forest (October 14).
