After his phenomenal performance in winning the Dark Star Ultramrathon at Shoreham last week you could’ve expected Paul Sargent to take it easy for a few weeks.

But it’s not in his nature so Sunday found him at the start line of the new ‘Longman Ultra’, a 29 mile ultramarathon that started and finished in Falmer Village and took in a number of climbs up onto the Downs.

Conditions were somewhat better than last week, although obviously still very muddy underfoot but this did not stop Paul winning his second event in a row, completing the course in a remarkable 4hrs 12 mins (unconfirmed).

Also on Sunday, the second round of the West Sussex Fun Run League took place with the 4 mile (approx) Valentines Run organised by Horsham Joggers with 29 BHR members in attendance, as usual one of the best represented clubs and enabled the club to move from 9th to 5th in the overall league table. Always muddy at the best of times, this year was particularly gruesome but this did not stop club members from putting in some sparkling performances. James Collins was delighted with third place overall in 22.54, followed by Darryl Webb (23.40), James Sorbie (26.35) and Alan Fry (27.08).

Sally Symes led the ladies home in 33.19 followed by Emma Fernandez (33.31), Jean Leak (34.00) and Sue Lyle (34.02).
