Paul’s on top of his game and Mark’s on top of Box Hill

Haywards Heath Harrier Paul Cousins put in a top class run at the Sussex Masters Cross Country Championships at Lancing last weekend to finish 12th out of the 100-plus field in the men’s race.

He also came 10th in his over-40 category with 35.34 for the 8.7k distance.

Meanwhile Mark Sykes was the only Harrier who braved the Box Hill Fell race, finishing in 81.58 for the 7.5miles, which features an ascent of more than 1700ft.

The Worthing Lido 4-mile race was the second fixture in the 2012 West Sussex Fun Run League and 15 Harriers competed over the seafront course on Sunday.

Adrian Riley finished a speedy 19th out of 481 runners in 24.19 and not far behind were Jason Russell 27th in 24.39 and Andrew Biggs 42nd in 25.22.

Barry Tullet impressed with a PB to make the top 50 in 25.53 and Carl Bicknell 26.10 and Mark Armitage 26.23 were also in the top 100.

For the ladies Linda Tullet ran her best for the course to finish 88th female with 35.16, followed by Michelle Holdstock 110th lady in 36.34. Other times were Steve Horn 30.42, Carl Day 32.01, Terry Bryan 33.10, Dave Walker 36.47, Justine Denyer 42.31, Jenny Denyer 44.31 and Trevor Crowhurst 44.43.

At the 5k Hove Park Run Tim Popkin recorded a new PB time of 20.55, while at the Reedham 10-mile road race Kim Lo was fourth lady and won the senior lady trophy in 1.07.17 (chip time). She finished 58th out of 402 runners.

In the third round of the Sports Hall League at Horsham, Harriers’ girls put in a good performance to finish third out of six. Under 11 Mollie Beale was second in the 2-lap race and was joined by Derval Branagan, Ellie Rogers and Madeline Holder to finish third in the 4x1 lap relay.

For the U13 girls Tia Dolton won the speed bounce and Phoebe Collins was first in the standing long jump with 2m12 and third in the vertical jump.

Under U15 Fyona Ferguson won the speed bounce and Brittany Croydon-Kempster was second in both the 4-lap race and vertical jump. Elle McWilliam was third in the standing long jump with 2m12.

The boys worked hard for fourth place. Under 11 Josh Essex was third in the standing long jump with 1m74, under 13 Zach Dolton won the 4-lap race and was second in the half distance, and Dan McKay was second in the shot with 6m99.
